Have you ever had one of those days when you wake up with a great feeling that you’re going to have a wonderful day? Everything is going to go your way.  In short, smooth sailing you’re glad you’re alive. Then something happens, big or small, and BOOM! That great feeling quickly changes to one of frustration, overwhelm and feeling out of control?

I had two such days last week, back to back, where my usual sunny disposition turned dark and ugly. I don’t know about you but I hate feeling out of control. First the computer froze up and I couldn’t save my work (AUGH!) Then the printer wouldn’t work. More frustration. Then I couldn’t figure out how to login to a website and download a promotion Southwest was offering. By that point I was ready to throw in the towel.

The first day, I suffered, I mentally beat myself up and I let the mind win the round.  But the next day when it started up all over again, I took action.

I knew I needed to center and get back into the present moment. So I did some deep breathing. Then I did a couple rounds of Tapping where I vented my frustration and relieved my anxiety and overwhelm feelings. Finally, I popped in one of Paul Scheele’s Reset paraliminals entitled “Calm.” In less than a half hour I was feeling calm and positive. Any frustrating event that happened later, didn’t bother me. I either let it roll off or I was able to laugh at myself.

Everyone has days where the little things throw us out of harmony and destroy our good mood but it doesn’t have to be that way.

Here’s some tips you can use:

  1. Stop what you are doing, center and breathe deeply
  2. Refocus by focusing on something around you that makes you feel good i.e. look out the window, smell a flower, connect with nature
  3. Take a walk, exercise, yoga
  4. Meditate, listen to a calming CD
  5. Laugh at yourself or think of something funny
